Someone once asked us whether the distance between Italy and America makes the work harder.
We did not answer, because the question assumed the distance was a problem to be solved. The distance is not a problem. The distance is the collaborator. Without the Atlantic between us, there is no Sacro Caso. There is only two people in the same room, which is something else entirely, and not what this is.
Every track on this record contains more silence than sound. We did this on purpose. The silence is not empty. The silence is where the distance lives, and where you are invited to bring whatever you carried in with you tonight.
We made space for it. We hope you use it.
You found this. That was not an accident.
Or if it was — then it was the right kind.
Niente ancora.
Niente ancora.
There is no agreed-upon account of how Sacro Caso began.
One version holds that it started with a frequency — a specific tuning heard separately, on the same night, in a city of fog and cathedrals and a city built on ambition. Another version says it began with a letter that took longer to arrive than it should have, and that what was written inside it no longer matters, only that it was written. A third version, offered rarely and only in private, is that it did not begin at all — that Sacro Caso has always existed, and that the two artists simply walked into it the way you walk into a room that has been waiting for you.
What is known: there are two of them. One is in Italy. One is in America. They have never been in the same room at the same time, or if they have, neither will confirm it.
The Atlantic Ocean appears in everything they do — not as subject, but as condition. Distance is not an obstacle in the world of Sacro Caso. Distance is the instrument. The miles between them are played like a string pulled almost to breaking. The tension is the sound.
They work through the night, separately. Milan sleeps, or tries to. America hums its fluorescent hum. Files cross the ocean without ceremony. These fragments find each other and become something neither artist could have made alone, and could not fully explain having made together.
Sacro Caso. Sacred chance. It happened. It is happening. It will have always happened.
Già.
